Project Requirements

Students of Interior Design Diploma were given a space to design an office to enhance their commercial designing skills. They were supposed to design the office taking into consideration the aesthetics and comfort. While designing the student kept in mind all the components and elements of the office that was both decorative and functional. The design included features such as colour choices, layout, lighting elements and connectivity between employees. The student concept included the placement of the workstations and seating arrangements, prioritising office ergonomics, storage, choosing the right colour scheme and ensuring plenty of natural lighting in the office.

Work Process

FLOOR PLAN & FURNITURE LAYOUT

Many factors were taken under consideration while planning the furniture layout of the office. The student made sure that the office layout was efficient and served its purpose. The design was such that it could facilitate managers with better supervision and control of their workforce. Enough space was provided for the workstations to ensure steady and effective workflow to increase productivity. Privacy was incorporated in the design for the staff working on confidential projects. Storage facilities were well planned. Employees spend a lot of time working in their office. Taking under consideration the comfort level of the employee’s comfortable furniture including chairs, sofa etc was designed. It was a well-planned office layout.

SECTIONAL ELEVATIONS

An elevation sketch is an orthographic projection—a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional space. For interior design, it is a two-dimensional drawing of a wall (or series of walls) with varying degrees of detail. An interior elevation plan, or section drawing, can help with the aesthetic planning, giving the designer a front or side view of a space, developing in complexity as details are added throughout the project, like where appliances or built-ins should be positioned. Elevation sketches are usually scale drawings, and present a layout of a room on a vertical plane. By creating an elevation drawing, the student was able to figure out the placement of things like furniture, fixtures, ceiling height and other décor accessories in his design.

3D VIEWS INTERIOR

3D interior design is the representation of a fully furnished and decorated space including lighting, textures and materials from a 3D perspective. Lighting plays a very important role in designing of any space. The design incorporated sufficient natural and artificial lighting to create a positive environment in the office. The student chose a perfect colour scheme which was a combination of light and dark colours. The colours scheme was very well displayed in the wall, ceiling and floor treatments. Overall, the design provided a wholesome environment to employees to make them feel safe and comfortable at the workplace. Perfect 3d views of Directors cabin and Conference Room including all the important elements of design was created using different 3D software such as SketchUp and 3DS Max.

3D VIEW EXTERIOR

The use of 3DS Max software is not only in interior designing but also exterior designing. Exterior designing is also very important for the student to understand as both interior and exterior design goes hand in hand. The student was successful in designing the exterior façade of the office building so that the client not only gets an insight of the interiors but also how the building looks from outside. The exterior design focused on the outside appearance of the building and structure. The student took under consideration the elements of exterior designing including landscaping, outdoor lighting, architectural details, paint, material to be used on the exterior of the building etc.

Studio Apartment-2 BHK Design

Project Requirements

Students of Interior Design Diploma were given a space to design a studio apartment-2BHK, so that they get an exposure to residential designing. Residential interior design is the art of creating aesthetic and functional living spaces. The students were asked to keep the essential elements of residential design in mind including two bedrooms, one master bedroom and one guest room with attached washrooms, a kitchen and dining area and a place to socialize-living room. The student managed to take out space for Puja as well as staircase and lift. The aim behind giving residence project was to make the students understand space planning and make the best use of the space.

Floor Plan & Furniture Layout

First and foremost, space planning requires the ability to visualize space in three dimensions and a keen sense of composition, scale, and proportion. Technical knowledge and familiarity with furniture and equipment are required to make dimensional calculations. When an interior designer is able to integrate design, colors, placements, accessories, etc altogether in a cohesive fashion, that is when a place comes to life. This means that every space should have a good sense of balance between comfort and beauty, which is made possible only if proper space planning is done well in advance. The student tried to balance comfort and beauty keeping few points in mind such as function of the room, balancing the rooms area, not cluttering the rooms & comfortable bedrooms.

Sectional Elevations

Sectional elevation is the finished appearance of a given side of the interior space and furnishes vertical height dimensions. It is important as it gives you the chance to see everything from other viewpoints. Without elevation drawings, one cannot see the details of each and every furniture placed in the room. It is a view from the side of an object when drawing interior elevations; this represents one of the walls. This includes any windows or doors as well as any built-in furniture that is in direct contact with the wall. Interior elevations are essential for the correct placement of all structures and final details. Creating elevations allowed the student to better control the design process and make corrections wherever required before creating 3D Views of different rooms.

3D Views-Interior

With 3D interior design, one can take a virtual walkthrough of the space and get a wholesome impression and a true visualization of its final image easily, even before the actual work starts. This would include the details of all the structural and design elements, from floor to ceiling. One can also have a look at the aesthetic benefits as well as technical aspects of the design by closely examining the interior from every angle, which was a major challenge with the 2D interior design. The student with the help of Google SketchUp (3D Software) created these 3D views which helps to completely visualize the actual scene of the interiors of the space before it even finishes getting its makeover and saving three major resources – Time, Money and Effort.

Cafe/Restaurant Design (Kabab Corner)

Project Requirements

Students of Interior Design Diploma were given a space to design a Café or a small restaurant, so that they get an exposure of retail designing. They were supposed to design the café/ restaurant with a theme taking into account the interior finishes and the comfort of the customers. The student chose to design kabab corner. Visually appealing design was created by the student keeping in mind all the requirements of a kabab corner.

Floor plans are like a blueprint, which is a technical drawing displaying the overhead view of a space and the layout of where certain design elements—doors, windows, stairs—would go. Furniture placement can be as important to interior design as the colour scheme and accessories one chooses. Arranging furniture correctly can be the difference between having a cramped and unhappy space to an open and flowing space. For the space to reach its full potential proper furniture placement is a must. Creating the furniture layout was the first step for the student to start his project of kabab corner design. He did the furniture placement taking into account the functionality of the space. The purpose of the layout was to show the proportions and dimensions of the kabab corner space.

3D Views-Interior

Interior designers create interior 3D designs in order to communicate their vision of a new space to potential clients before the work is started. It helps potential clients understand the design ideas and project themselves in their new space. 3D interior design is essential as it allows the clients to see a specific space from multiple angles and get details on the most important elements. The student with the help of Google SketchUp (3D Software) created photorealistic interior 3D renderings of the kabab corner so that the client can perceive the different textures and at-a-glance can understand how his space could really look like once furnished.

Jewellery Showroom

Project Requirements

Students learning multiple 2D and 3D Design Software’s from Design Academy were assigned different projects for creating 3D Views using 3DS Max (3D Software). The student designed a jewellery showroom using 2D and 3D Software’s including AutoCAD & 3DS Max. Showroom interior design plays a pivotal role in attracting customers and eventually convincing them to make all important purchase. The store layout, the shelf display, and the walkways have a huge influence on a customer’s psyche. Keeping all the above requirements in mind the student was able to beautifully design the jewellery showroom. The theme of the showroom was the brand itself. The interiors were planned by Incorporating colours matching to the brand logo.

Floor Plan & Furniture Layout

A well-executed jewellery shop design plan communicates a strong brand presence while enabling a pleasurable shopping experience for customers. A jewellery shop floor plan that includes well-placed lighting elements is key to making the jewellery displays really shine. A retail store’s profitability relies on its ability to maximize every square foot of sales floor space. Hence, making floor planning as the essential step to designing the store. In a jewellery shop floor plan, the jeweller’s work station, storage areas, administrative offices and staff break area should be located around the space’s perimeter. The jewellery shop design plan should also include numerous security precautions, an effective alarm system, as well as an overnight safe or vault storage of all possible merchandise.

Sectional Elevations

Plans, elevations and sections are 2D visuals that represent a 3D object. Combining different 2D visuals allows one to create an accurate representation of a design. Creating sectional elevations by the student was the second step to designing of the jewellery showroom after creating the floor plan. Sectional Elevations illustrate the finished interior wall of a building. Elevations are used to show heights, materials, and other information that cannot be seen in floor plans including structural details. This would include any windows or doors as well as any built-in furniture that is in direct contact with the wall. A section is a cut through of a space which will show more of the space features. Hence, creating elevations was an important step towards designing.

3D Views-Interior

Designing jewellery showroom was a challenge for the student. She designed the showroom incorporating the colours matching to the brand logo and with a perfect combination of mirror and wood. The lighting used did wonders to the overall look and feel of the showroom. She manged to give ample lighting to sufficiently illuminate the displays so that everything is visible to the eye. She played with the wall paper and mirrors on the wall. Her design took the showroom to an altogether different level with a modern art layout and presentation. Modern 3D modelling provided a level of design depth that rough sketches or 2D designs could not, such as improved control over details. It also helped explore the physical aspects of the design without surrendering to physical limitations.
